What, and where is Pender Island?
 Pender Island is actually 2 islands, North and South Pender Island, but for ease of wording the area is most often referred to as simply "Pender Island", which is how I refer to I throughout this website.
Pender Island is located in the Southern Gulf Islands between world class cities of Vancouver and Victoria in beautiful British Columbia. It boasts a sub Mediterranean climate, where mild spring temperatures start as early as March and the fall season extends into early November. The area also receives less rain fall and more sunlight then Vancouver or Victoria. The year round population currently stands at just over 2,500, this number increases during the tourist season when the splendid climate attracts visitors from around the world.

Who lives on Pender Island?
Pender Island is a popular choice for retirees, families with children, artists, designers and craftsmen, and anyone who wants to live in a safe, vibrant community where they can be involved, or escape into their own private retreat away from the stresses of living in more urban settings. The current population boasts retired politicians and active executives, painters, potters and sculptors, and an incredible baby boom - 12 newborns in 2006, a few more due in the early months of 2007!
There's also a signifanct population of sports and outdoor enthusiasts including kayakers, hikers, disc golfers, regular golfers, boaters, fishermen, cyclists, walkers and beachcombers.
The climate and the fertility of the land makes it an oasis for gardeners and both serious and hobby farmers of vegetation and agricultural animals. The range of artists on Pender Island is astounding, painters, sculptors, potters, jewellers and more. There are a great number of galleries open to the public, and many creative people find they are able to sell their wares to appreciative buyers.

What do People do for fun on Pender Island?
There are so many clubs and organizations open to members interested in learning about the interests mentioned, the communities of artists, gardeners, craftsmen,and more including theater, choirs, dance groups, sports gatherings and more. If there is a hobby you've been interested in pursuing for some time, you're likely to find a group of like minded individuals willing to organize a group to learn and discover and teach each other about it. It's impossible to be bored on the island once you discover it's vibrant amd active community.
 Pender Island has 70+ walking trails throughout the forests, meadows and beaches. With cleared paths passing through second growth rainforest, past water falls, through lush gigantic ferns, alongside astounding natural views, these walking trails make it easy to explore the wild parts of the island. They are clearly marked by signs and a detailed map is available throught the Parks Board.
Owning a small boat to Island hop gives you access to the unique communities of Islands such as Galiano, Saturna, Mayne and Salt spring.
A popular outdoor sport on the island is disc golf, we have a great frisbee disc golf course that's free, and there's exciting tournaments every summer.
The Pender Island Golf & Country Club is a beautiful and challenging nine hole golf course with a cozy restaurant/lounge, and all of the required golfing gear available for rent. A popular meeting place for many local islanders!
Beginner and experienced kayakers & scuba divers find our waters a joy to explore, with wildlife such as this curious seal to the right, to be found both above and below the waterline to be found in abundance around our island.
Have a passion for fishing or boating? There are 3 marinas found on the island, with a variety of rentals and services available. There's active yacht and sailing clubs, here experienced and novice boaters can learn from each other and enjoy their vessels.
Hiking, biking, horseback riding, exploration of our beautiful waters, indulging your artistic side with a vibrant and welcoming artistic community, learning craftsmen trades such as woodworking and eco-home building, relaxing on your deck as eagles soar overhead, enjoying theater and music performances at our vibrant community hall, growing your dream garden, there is just so much to do on here on Pender Island!

What kinds of animals and plant life are found on Pender Island?
Pender Island is home to a spectacular mix of flora and fauna. Trees include Arbutus, Gary Oak, Douglas Fir. Animals include bundant Bald Eagles, Golden Eagles, Peregrine Falcons, Hawks, Owls, Turkey Vultures, Woodpeckers, Herons, Deer, Mink, Sea Otters, River Otters, Seals, Sea Lions, Porpoises and of course the beloved Orcas (Killer Whales). The island is lush with plant life including spectacular wildflowers and wildberry shrubs, so it's no suprise that it's a popular destintion for hummingbirds and butterflies.
